Explain Calories

Calories are...

A way of measuring the amount

of energy in foods and drinks.

Actually called kilocalories, we shorten it, and on food and drinks packaging,

it's listed as 'kcal'.

How much is too much?

Our bodies use calories just to breathe, circulate blood, digest... even to think.  The amount you need depends on age, size, activity levels, medication and medical conditions.

It's said that bodies with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

use up to four times the amount of energy

that non-EDS bodies use to move..

Generally, for adults, under 1000 kcal a day is too little, over 3000 kcal is too much.  For an idea about how many calories your body needs each day, try this BBC Calorie Calculator.
