Explain Transpyloric Stent

The Pyloric Muscle

The pylorus connects the stomach to the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine. The circle of muscle (sphincter) that acts like a valve to let food leave the stomach and stop it going back up into it.

G-POEM stands for Gastric Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy. It is used to treat paralysed stomach or stomachs that empty too slowly.

Done under general anaesthesia in an operating room,

the procedure involves a tube being put down the throat

into the stomach. Cuts and a little 'tunnel' are then

made to expose the muscle.

Once reached, a permeant cut is made in the muscle to allow food to pass through and

into the small intestine.

The procedure should take

around 30 minutes.
