Explain Hiatus Hernia

Close up of part of a camera.

You've probably heard of someone who have had some sort of hernia.

Hiatus Hernias are...

...When part of your stomach shifts up into your chest cavity. Small hiatus hernias usually go unnoticed. Big ones, though?

Big ones can let food go up out of your stomach into your

throat, causing acid burn and other symptoms like difficulty swallowing, breathlessness and internal bleeding

(blood in vomit or black tarry stools).

Some can be treated medically with medication, others need surgery to get the stomach to stay where it needs to be.
