Explain Nissen Surgery
Nissen Surgery is...
...Usually done laparoscopically ('keyhole surgery') through a cut 4 or 5cm long and takes 60-90 minutes. You are knocked out for it.
Sometimes, keyhole thing doesn't work, so you have to be opened up, which involves an abdominal incision 6-10 inches long.
During the surgery, your stomach is wrapped around the bottom of your oesophagus.
Hopefully, this 'valve' will keep stomach acid in the stomach and stop it from rising up into the throat, causing that heart burn feeling.
