Explain Transpyloric Stent

The Pyloric Channels

The pylorus connects the stomach

to the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine. It lets food pass out of the stomach and stops it going back up into the stomach.

Transpyloric Stents...

Transpyloric stents are a specially designed of pieces of metal, made into a mash and sometimes covered with another material.

In people with Gastroparesis, where stomach

paralysis stops the stomach emptying, a stent like

this can be placed to keep things open so that

food is able to pass into the small intestine.

Undigested food in the stomach can lead to nausea, vomiting and in worst cases, a bezoar can form as the food hardens into a solid mass.

This can become life-threatening.
